Tips on How to Avoid Low Quality Contact Lens

Oct 14, 2017 Zhe Zhou

Contact lenses should attach to our eye bowls. Therefore, we must learn tips on how to avoid low-quality contact lenses. You must know that expensive does not mean safe and high quality. You’d better choose the proper types of contact lenses and then take high quality into consideration. Let’s begin with choosing the right contact lens.

How to choose an appropriate contact lens?

Firstly, you should have knowledge of types of contact lenses. There are five kinds of contact lenses. They are hard contact lenses (which are always made of PMMA), soft lenses, RGP lenses (Rigid Gas Permeable lenses), Hybrid contact lenses, and Silicone hydrogel lenses. Feel confused about these names, right? Let me list their pros and cons to give you a brief impression about these lenses.

Types

Pros

Cons

Hard contact lenses

l Excellent optics

l Better choice for people with astigmatism

l Uncomfortable to wear

l Take a long time to adapt

Soft lenses

l Comfortable to wear

l Can be worn for a long time.

l Easily polluted in dusty environments.

RGP lenses

l Allow oxygen to pass through

l Closer to your eyes

l Uncomfortable to wear

l Take a long time to adapt

Hybrid lens

l Another better choice for people with astigmatism

l Expensive

l Difficult to fit

Silicone hydrogel lenses

l High oxygen permeability

l Really popular

l Thick

l Uncomfortable for some people.

What’s more? You should consider how long you would like to wear these contact lenses. Thus, you can choose from daily wear or extended wear. In my opinion, daily wear may be cleaner and have less possibility of infection.

The last point is written for girls who want to change their appearance by wearing contact lenses. There is a kind of lens called colored contact lenses which can modify your appearance. For example, a blue contact lens can make your eyes look deeper. Just like the one in the picture. It is a product from ttdeye.

How to choose high-quality contact lenses?

When choosing a contact lens, you should check out these parameters.

Oxygen permeability: you must know that our eyes also need to breathe. If a contact lens has low oxygen permeability, your eyes might feel dry after you wear the lens for several hours.

Water content: A lens with high water content will result in dry eyes after long-term wear. High water content lenses mean they need more water, in other words, tears. The more tears absorbed by the lens, the more uncomfortable your eyes will be.

Central thickness: If the central thickness is less than 0.04mm, it belongs to ultra-thin. The ideal thickness is 0.04mm-0.06mm and a normal one ranges from 0.04mm to 0.09mm. What feeling can an ultra-thin lens bring to you? A more comfortable wearing experience when you wear it.

However, you can’t just choose a contact lens on your own after checking out these parameters. The condition of your eyes should also be taken into account. So, you can avoid low-quality contact lenses.
